ABOUT THE COURSE
The CHCSS00133 Induction to Disability Skill Set is built specifically for people who are new to disability support work. It covers the foundational knowledge and practical skills that every disability support worker needs before stepping into a client-facing role — including understanding disability legislation, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), person-centred approaches and how to communicate and engage respectfully with clients and their families.
The induction to disability skill set isn't a general overview — it's a targeted entry point designed to prepare you for real work in a sector that demands both competence and empathy. Employers across the disability services industry actively look for workers who hold this credential.
DELIVERY METHOD
Disability support is deeply personal work and our delivery method reflects that. Training is structured around face-to-face sessions that encourage discussion and reflection alongside practical components that put your skills to work in genuine support environments.
You won't just be reading about how to assist someone with a disability — you'll be practising the communication, problem-solving and support techniques that actually matter when you're on the job. Assessment is competency-based, so the focus stays on what you can do rather than what you can memorise. Small group sizes mean you get real attention from your trainer, not just a seat in a room.
OUR TRAINERS
Working in disability support requires more than technical knowledge — it requires an understanding of how the NDIS operates, what rights clients hold and how to navigate complex support needs with professionalism and care. Our trainers bring exactly that.
With hands-on experience in disability services, they know what employers expect and what clients genuinely need from the people supporting them. As a fully accredited RTO (Registration No. 32117), Blue Stone Medical & Professional ensures every trainer meets the standards required to deliver quality, compliant training. What you learn here reflects the current reality of the disability sector — not an outdated version of it.
FUNDED COURSES
Starting out in disability support shouldn't mean a big financial commitment before you've even landed your first role. This skill set is available through Queensland Government funding, keeping costs low and entry straightforward.
Concessional students pay $100.00 and the non-concessional fee is $200.00 — a modest outlay for a credential that significantly improves your employability in the NDIS sector. AuStudy and AbStudy may also provide additional financial assistance for eligible applicants.
Call our Rockhampton office to confirm your eligibility and find out exactly what applies to your situation.
POSSIBLE CAREER PATHS
The disability support sector is one of the fastest-growing areas of employment in Australia, driven by the ongoing expansion of the NDIS. Completing the induction to disability skill set opens doors to roles including disability support worker, community participation support worker, NDIS plan support assistant and in-home support worker.
Many graduates find work quickly — providers across Queensland are actively hiring people with the right training and a genuine commitment to the people they support. For those looking to build further, this skill set pairs naturally with the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support, giving you a clear pathway to a fuller qualification and broader career options.
